I never watched the play, so when I went to the movie and saw Anne Hathaway, I was blown away. In these few minutes I felt her sorrow and grief and I loved her, and when she died (I didn't know she dies), I yelled in the cinema "What the F*ck"! I was kicked out! :P I watched in again in another theater though.

She wasn't at her best in this movie, actually. Compare the many changes in emotion of Eponine's 'On my Own', which she sang at a far deeper level, than Hathaway's angry/hurt 'I Dreamed a Dream'. There were many nuances that she missed. Part of it was just poor direction (Such as planting her in one spot in the movie; the trailer is better because she can move around), but part because she was conveying fresh, raw hurt/anger; not a life of hurt that killed her dreams and deadened her spirit.
