And they both got it from the US (as Dapdune correctly says below me).
I was only familiar with the Melbourne one, and grew up thinking this jingle was purely a Melbourne thing. Recently I tried looking for it on YouTube, and found Hello Adelaide, Hello Tassie, Hello Calgary, Hello Oklahoma, Hello Illinois...
Really shattered my illusions to realise not only was it not just a Melbourne ad, it wasn't even an *Australian* ad.
Actually it was the other way around: ADS7 (as it was back then - it did channel swapsies with SAS10 in 1987) used that version of the 'Hello' campaign in 1984, while HSV7 (who had used the earlier form of the 'Hello' campaign) picked up and rerecorded the jingle in 1986. Tas TV uses this later recording.
It makes sense now. Similar to Perth. I remember in 85 there was no channel 10 so programs like perfect match that screened on 10 in the eastern states was on channel 7 in Perth.
This wasn't unusual in Tasmania, for an unaffiliated station to take a metro network's look & slogans, while still screening everything from Nine, Seven & Ten. TNT9 in Launceston also did this before 1985 (when they became TAS TV too), taking the Nine Network's IDs, promos, etc from day one.
Btw, TAS TV only took on Nine's look after 1992, when they signed affiliation, along with their sister station, VIC TV.
Im lost here. Was Tas Tv part of Channel 7? I always thought that Tas Tv was part of Channel 9 as it used the Channel 9 theme between programs before WIN TV took over.

and Adelaide got it from HSV7 in Melbourne.
The same promo went all around Australia.
Just look at the way they try and get adelaide into the beat, doesn't work all that well.
