http://www.DrAngelaAgrios.com - Probiotics are friendly bacteria that reside in the gut, and they are essential for optimum gut health and immune function. Lack of friendly bacteria in the gut can lead to an overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria, and once that happens, all kinds of health problems can occur. In this video Dr. Angela Agrios, ND (A California Licensed Naturopathic Doctor) explains what Probiotics are and why we should take them on a regular basis. She discusses:
• Bio-K Plus Probiotics - very powerful brand of Probiotics at 50 billion CFUs which means Colony Forming Unit (http://www.biokplus.com)
• Probiotic means "pro life" and they are friendly bacteria and yeasts (whereas antibiotic means "against life")
• We get our friendly bacteria at the moment in time we go through the vagina as we are being born
• Probiotics compete for space in the intestines, pushing out the bad bacteria and fungi and thereby allow good bacteria to thrive
• Antibiotics are used extensively in our meat supply, and we take a lot of antibiotics, and all those antibiotics reduces friendly Probiotics in our system
• FOS stands for Fructooligosaccharides, and is used to feed the bacteria
• Pearls Probiotics are designed to get through stomach acid at 1 billion CFU (http://www.pearlslife.com)
• Probiotics improve immune function, help slow down or stop gas, promote bowel regularity, and modulate immune function (especially from inflammation)
• About 80% of the immune system lives in the gut and therefore its very important to have good gut health, and taking Probiotics on a regular basis will help maintain and promote good gut health.

@lejah1000 Yes, it is a probiotic. Probiotic means "friendly bacteria." There are many strains, and acidophilus is one of the many strains. Take them with food.
