democracy = everyone votes
republic = representatives votes
democratic republic= we vote for representatives who vote.

@ratarob Look up republic in the dictionary or an encyclopedia. It is not defined that way. It simply means a government with non-hereditary leaders. Everything about rule of law, protection of minority rights, etc is other stuff added to it. You can have rule of law in a monarchy.

@aluisious no offence intended ...but it is what it means democracy mean mayority rule .... republic means that everybody has to obey the law .....even if the mayority wants something else..

the problem here is .....that democracy and republic are diferent things .....democracy means mayority rule ....and republic means rule by the law.
