Yes, I know there's already a cut in the wood. Thats the messed up cut that didn't get finished when my last lumber mill cracked a hub. I'm taking that part off to get back to a clean surface.

...obviously. :-P

  • @JMEMantzel The spinning mass of a heavy flywheel provides a huge amount of torque while you still being able to use your small electric motor to drive the blade. I have seen different setups where the flywheel is connected to the blade by an universal joint from a car, or a belt drive and even some sprockets from a motorbike where you still can be able to turn the blade so you're able to cut vertically and horizontally

  • Hi Jamie..

I don't pretend to be M. Knowitall but here's a tip I learned from my grandfather.

He taught me that in order for a blade to cut wood fast and efficiently its "drive" needs a lot of torque in order not to get stuck or slow down etc. You get the point right. Well the motors used usually doesn't have that much torque so it's a choice between torque or cutting speed.

The solution is to have a massive flywheel power your blade and the motor power the flywheel giving both speed and torque.

  • Can you tell me how to calculate the pivot point so what my yet to be build mill can cut 2x6 boards when I flip the saw?

  • you should put the swich in a electrical box

  • Your generator bothers me. Hearing the rpms go crazy like that makes me think that the voltages and ect are going batshit insane also. Just like you mentioned your welder working better on the inverter.

  • Jamie, you did a great job on the lumber mill. I like it.

  • I know we all think Jaimie is awsome and are in awe of him at least I'am ,but why do those who have told him to put safety guards on the mill have to give him that advice. Are you all pessimist ? Do you not think that Jaimie knows what he's doing? Maybe not always. Are you building that lumbermill? NO you're not! If you want guards on a lumber mill build one yourself! So give Jaimie a break from all your armchair quarterback comments and keep them to yourself! I know he would appreciate it.

  • 4:20 lol!

  • Congrats!!

  • Great machine, really smooth and looks easy to operate! Re: baby's bum... aren't you going to find out pretty soon? :-P
