High Noon, sung by Frankie Laine in this version, is an American 1952 western film directed by Fred Zinnemann and starring Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly. The film tells in real time the story of a town marshal forced to face a gang of killers by himself. The screenplay was written by Carl Foreman, based on John W. Cunningham's Collier's magazine short story, The Tin Star.

I remember this film being played every Christmas when I was a kid.
Much like The Sound of Music is nowadays.

Lyrical bitz

Do not forsake me, oh my darlin'
On this, our weddin' day
Do not forsake me, oh my darlin'
Wait, wait along

I do not know what fate awaits me
I only know I must be brave
And I must face a man who hates me
Or lie a coward, a craven coward
Or lie a coward in my grave

Oh, to be torn 'tweenst love and duty
S'posin' I lose my fair-haired beauty
Look at that big hand move along
Nearin' high noon

He made a vow while in state prison
Vowed it would be my life or his'n
I'm not afraid of death but oh
What will I do if you leave me?

Do not forsake me, oh my darlin'
You made that promise as a bride
Do not forsake me, oh my darlin'
Although you're grievin', don't think of leavin'
Now that I need you by my side

Wait along,(wait along) wait along
Wait along, wait along
(Wait along, ,wait along, wait along, wait along)

  • @OrodesIII I've heard his recordings of MAKING MEMORIES, I'LL TAKE CARE OF YOUR CARES, RAWHIDE, MOONLIGHT GAMBLER, and I BELIEVE, and they don't sound all that bad for an over the hill singer!

  • Gary Cooper was the epitome of courage under fire in that film!

  • this was a great movie

  • LOVE THIS MAN UN ALL IS MUSIC. XLX

  • Tex Ritter Did it better and was the oringinal recording artist for this song

  • Not the first nor the best version by Frankie who was over-the-hill when he recorded this.

  • Thank you 4 sharing and thank you a lot from my mother Gertraud ;-)

  • In the film, High Noon, this song was sung by Tex Ritter.
