Why African American?

I explain why I prefer being called an African American and not JUST American.

@zakilahzulu You shouldn't come at someone with so much negativity for referring to themselves as what they know. If you want to educate, then do that. Instead of talking down to people. You attract more flies with honey sweetheart. :) Be blessed!

@flippinup so far, me telling people right when they mistakingly refer to me as an African American has made a little bit of a change. even my African friends are like, there is no African apparent in me. i seem so American to them despite my dark skinned look. if i went to Africa they would automatically know i am American.

no matter what others say, i still call myself American, even if they say African American. i use it as a time to educate. i am as much American as anyone else born here. and the "white" people who call themselves American should be called European American or German American or even African American because of their decendents.

My gosh, I can sympathize with what you're saying! I wish we as humans could just view each other as that, part of the human race. I'm proud of being hispanic, don't get me wrong, but it irks me that I'm always referred to as a Mexican American, while white people who live in the U.S. are always referred to as just plain Americans.

Desire, You express yourself well.  I hope that you are a Lions Club member. You would make a great District Governor, and maybe International President. You skipped over the word nigger. I know that may be offensive, to you, but the word honkey, is offensive to me. Also, there are white niggers, who do not have any African heritage. Also, in Hazard,Ky several years back, I heard one African American calling another African American 'nigger' over and over. Keep up the good work.
