Well, I'm back to LPing Super Mario RPG Revolution, rather than having to deal with the Hyphy Movement, the San Francisco Bay Area residents who prove that it doesn't deserve to be called the "Yay Area", the shallow girls who would say "wanna suck my pee" just to mock me, and the Oakland rioters. Now I'm using 5.0, rather than 4.0 which has broken HP Rain, although I'm planning to stop using Mallow after a certain point anyway. Again, I'm planning to do a run where I raise HP, as well as have my final team be the defense team. The former was broken in the original game because it was generally easy to have sufficient Attack to brute force your way through it, but here, exploiting enemy weaknesses is bound to be critical, moreso if I boost only HP. The latter means I'm using defensive characters in a ROM hack where defensive behavior is intended to be punished to suitable degrees. Also, this LP will try to double as a bestiary. Be sure to stay on the lookout, but if you want to play the ROM hack blind, only view the videos after getting past the necessary point. (And before you comment, please don't bother to ask me for the recommended level for any boss. I'll probably keep my EXP value low to begin with, so I might actually be underleveled for some bosses. :P )

In an interim, I get all 100 coins on the Midas River. That's right: all 36 coins on the waterfall, all 64 in the barrel jumping. And I also did some ROM hacking of my own to lampshade the CMOA. Sadly, graphics hacking isn't my forte and doesn't appeal to me anyway.

By the way, the Hyphy Movement wants to get their derogatory garbage they call music approved for being played in public places with CHILDREN? The Hyphy Movement sucks. End of discussion.

Anyway, while Mario and company have a clear objective, they visit Gaz first to see him off, and although Gaz doesn't like Geno leaving, he understands and gives him a weapon named the Finger Shot. The group heads to the Pipe Vault and works their way through the Breather Level, finding a Metal Slime type monster that runs away too fast to see what it does and a minigame that is a case of Do Well But Not Perfect, but mercifully isn't too hard for getting its worthwhile rewards. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the Mushroom Derby minigame available at Yo'ster Isle, a locale with Yoshis, found at the end of the Pipe Vault.

The problem with the minigame? NO VISUAL CUES! That fatal flaw makes the minigame much harder than it should be. It says something that I, who can do the Midas River, CAN NOT REALLY DO THIS GOD FORSAKEN MINIGAME.

  • Wow, you get roughly six and a half Frog Coins for such an amazing feat. What a rip off.

  • @greatone10

Well, it's not really a rip-off at this point in the game, where you don't have access to the cliff minigame.

Besides, I did get a medal. So stuff I would need Frog Coins for would be more fair game.

  • You're correct in saying the Mushroom Derby has no visual cues, but that's what the audio cues are for. Do you ever tap your foot to music, or play rhythm video games, or know what tempo is? The minigame isn't nearly as frustrating as you're making it out to be, especially because the race rhythm is exactly the same as the practice rhythm

  • @Amphareep

Donkey Konga provides visual cues. What's Super Mario RPG's excuse? Especially when Yoshi Cookies could have been used to allow available visual cues.

  • @MasterKnightDH

It doesn't need visual cues, though. That's my point. Super Mario RPG's excuse can be the practice run of the rhythm it gives you beforehand, if you wish. The game tells you you're ready for the real thing after nailing the beat there, so I honestly can't see the problem. The minigame can be completed with closed eyes and without Yoshi Cookies with extreme ease

  • @Amphareep

No, I display in the same video--this one no less--that the Midas River is playable without TASing, but the Mushroom Derby is so stupidly hard.

I see that sort of same arrogance in SSB's Stop Having Fun Guys. They too think levels or bosses that would legitimately qualify as That One Level or That One Boss are an absolute joke.

  • @MasterKnightDH The most frog coins you can get from him are 7.

  • @MasterKnightDH

I always found Mushroom Derby to be much harder on emulators than the console because of poor sound synchronization, but I haven't actually tried a rhythm game on an emulator in quite some time so they may have improved in that respect. Now that you mention it, I agree that visual cues would have been nice, but I wouldn't call it "stupidly hard" without them. On the other hand, it generally only takes me about five or six tries to get 100 Super Jumps, so maybe I'm just good.

  • @amado020388

Haven't gotten around to it yet. Hopefully, I will at some point soon enough.

  • what ever happened to you giving the enemies info?
