I woke up, the sun was shining. A beautiful Brisbane summer. I walk to my balcony and... the road is under water. That water wasn't there last night!

An hour previous the waters were just reaching our driveway. My housemates got their car out just in time to higher ground. An hour later, the driveway was inaccessible by car. Although it isn't raining, the water level is rising fast for several reasons. The previous downpour is still draining, the Wivenhoe dam is releasing water to prevent it from failing completely as it is currently at 190% capacity, and the tide is rising.

This footage was taken from my driveway on Wednesday at approximately 10am 12/01/2011 and I'm uploading it now to show my friends what it's like at the moment. The water will continue to rise until 2pm. Thursday will bring even higher waters still, but we'll do what we need to.

  • Hey, as a resident of 7 grimes I was wondering if you know how high it got in that complex?

  • @jollycrim34 This video doesn't show the floodwaters at their highest level. At their peak, the waters just covered the car you see submerged at the end of the street. I personally am located at Number 6 Grimes; this was filmed from the driveway. The houses you see in the film had their lowest levels flooded, but luckily the floors above that were spared. The other side of the road (where I am standing to film this) fared much better, although I can't speak for all of them with certainty.

  • Woah, as a previous tenant at No.5 I hope everyone in Grimes Street is OK! Especially Al & Cheryl @ No.3.. was going to call when I saw this but I would imagine you are both somewhere slightly less damp! All the best from the UK.. You are big news over here!!

  • Oh hey, that's me!! Number 5 got up to about an inch above the floor boards...
