This is the Del McCoury Band at the absolute height of their powers, in a live performance at Central Alabama Music Park, Jemison, Ala., in 1986.
This instrumental provides a good showcase for Rick Campbell's excellent fiddle playing. Also featured are the banjo stylings of Paul Silvius and the mandolin virtuosity of a then 20-year-old Ronnie McCoury.
The performance was originally aired on a show called "Alabama Jubilee" on Alabama Public Television. I discovered it while going through a stack of 20-year-old VHS Hi-Fi tapes I made back in the day.
Paul Silvius gets to show some his amazing drive and tasty choice of phrasing in this set; he's never received the credit he's due as one the truly great banjo players of the 70s and 80s. His work with Del, Joe Val and Bob Paisley is top shelf.
