Translated (& embedded subtitled) version of: "khodaya khob gosh kon agar khabidi bidar sho daran sedat mikona" - "God, listen well, if you are asleep please wake up, they are calling your name..."

The original video was recorded by a young woman in Tehran the night after the brutal government crackdown on Iranian demonstrators which occurred June 20th 2009. In a day of violence and brutality, many were injured and killed, including Neda Agha-Soltan, a 26 year old philosophy student. The exact number of other dead, injured, and arrested is still unknown. This video follows two other "poems" recorded by this woman, each to the nighttime background sound of people chanting Allah-o-akbar from their rooftops.

There are three additional "poems" recorded like this one:

One such video was recorded the very night before, June 19th, when the violence seemed inevitable but was still unknown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKUZuv6_bus

On June 16th ("Defenseless People"): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6bbEMxo2Xo

On June 21st ("Let Us Not Forget"): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QocvegFNuzc

Special thanks to the many Farsi speakers who helped to translate it, it is the combined effort of at least a dozen people.

Please only repost videos if you correctly source their location, date, and original video link (when it is safe to do so) - do not blind repost videos, and if there is already a well sourced copy of the video on YouTube, do not post again - just distribute the link to the original video - we need to keep the Iran videos better focused and the information better sourced so media outlets can have an easier time confirming dates and locations. Videos without descriptions or attribution make this much more difficult. Thanks!

  • The poem and words of this women are heartbreaking and beautiful. And to those who say god doesn't exist..so what, if shouting to god at time helps Iranians to believe that it will get better than let them have it. To those shouting from the rooftops know that we are listening and when the light of freedom comes we will shout with you.

  • i'm not religious, but that was powerful.

  • Praying is like a rocking chair...it'll give you something to do, but it won't get you anywhere.

  • I believe she cries for those around her. We all should as human beings when we hear voices calling in despair. I can hear the voice of a sister crying in her words. We are all bound together as humans.

  • Time we think of ourselves as humans instead of Iranians, Americans, or Chinese. Though America is where I was born, I am human first and these men and women calling out from the rooftops are my brothers and sisters. I hear hope in these voices. I wish the people peace and an end to their suffering.

  • OMG, this is so powerfull and purely innocent. i cried my eyes out by listening to her prayers. god bless u all x

  • who sounds crazy?

  • Yeah she is probably crazy from grief. It seems that you have never experienced any hardship in your life. Be thankful that you don't live under oppression and/or in a war torn world and pray that you never do..

  • she sounds crazy.........
