Syrian authorities have just demolished the makeshift settlements of these Kurdish families living on the outskirts of the small town of Ein Eisa in the Province of Raqqah in Northern Syria. Local authorities claimed that these settlements are illegal, but then, no one is disputing that. The problem is, authorities are not granting any new building permits, and have not done so for decades now. Nor have they tried to enact any realistic plans for addressing the growing problem of housing, job creation and internal migration in the country.
Moreover, endemic corruption means that only the poorest of the poor are targeted in the sporadic demolitions campaigns in the country. Those capable of offering the right bribes can easily persuade local authorities to look the other way, which is there are so many unplanned squatter settlements in the country, housing more than 40% of the total population in Syria.
The Kurds are targeted as well as part of the Arabization policies of the ruling Baath-regime.
It seems indeed that the Syrian government is behaving g as the old saying goes: They neither have mercy themselves, nor will they allow for Gods mercy to descend.
Fascists will pay for this .
