453 Detroit Powered 77 GMC Crewcab

This pickup originally was 2 wheel drive,350 V8,auto.Trans.Now its powered by a 453 detroit,2 speed overdrive manual trans,and a 4 speed manual trans,3/4 ton 4 wheel drive,(BIG TOM) was built by Tom Fisher of Seattle.I bought the truck and mounted a Meyers plow,this truck works very well plowing snow,just the right combination.I love driving BIG TOM!

I'm building a similar project, only I'm looking for the 4-53T or a 4-BT. Just a thought but have you figured out the fuel milage yet w pushing the plow or not even on the truck?? I'm really courious, to know, since the project that I build God willing I will give to my son.

@MrJIMMYJIMMERSON 13 to 14 ,guessing but never checked fuel milage but know that 4bt would get better,for sure.I heard of a guy that put 4bt in pickup and pulled trailer with a freind that had 6bt with trailer,same weight and end of trip 4bt used close to same fuel,so why not have 2 more pistons. I use my 453 powered G.M.C to plow my coffee shop up town and my equipment yard, its a real head turner and fun to shift gears but dont think I would ever make it a everyday driver.

i understand u probably changed gearing for more torque but damn high rpms

@fattymiccrapper it will do 63 at 2400 and in this video its running at 2400 but they say this motor can be run against its govenor at 2900.

@peterbuiltman1994 It has a heavy muffler that came with motor, new in the crate.I do have a grader with same motor that is straight piped, its alot louder.

@superbeeaddict250 No vid but my dad bought the pickup here in town new in 73 and sold it couple years later to get new one. I bought it back from 2nd owner and restored it and now its back in the family and in pretty good shape.
