For all its complexity, Defender has become one of the most popular shoot 'em ups of all time. Why? It's a tough game.

  • I have the 2600 atari and the 2600 version of defender. The original is a very fun game but this one looks even better.

  • in that program how did they get a working controller? I am just asking dont bad comment my comment

  • Terrific game.

  • The Colecovision version had good response and timing, but the original arcade version is still the best of the best. That and Defender II (Stargate).

  • it's a direct feed from the system to the recording device. Either that' or they simply kinescoped, it, which means filming the TV with a specially configured motion picture camera, very low tech actually

  • VCS, the original name of the 2600.

  • I guess so.

  • VCR's?

  • I never got how they recorded full screen gameplay footage. Sure, today we have dazzles and emulators, but this is 1983!

  • Not that many, lolz. XD On average, an Atari CX52 controller will last you for 3-4 years. After that, then you have to replace the Mylar Circuit Reflex, which is pretty easy.

Think of it as driving a car with tires: those tires are not going to last forever. You will eventually have to change them.

  • Every time I watch one of these 5200 Hint Tapes I can't help but wonder how many times they had to replace the controllers
