Terrific game.

The Colecovision version had good response and timing, but the original arcade version is still the best of the best. That and Defender II (Stargate).

it's a direct feed from the system to the recording device. Either that' or they simply kinescoped, it, which means filming the TV with a specially configured motion picture camera, very low tech actually

VCS, the original name of the 2600.

I guess so.

VCR's?

I never got how they recorded full screen gameplay footage. Sure, today we have dazzles and emulators, but this is 1983!

Not that many, lolz. XD On average, an Atari CX52 controller will last you for 3-4 years. After that, then you have to replace the Mylar Circuit Reflex, which is pretty easy.
Think of it as driving a car with tires: those tires are not going to last forever. You will eventually have to change them.

Every time I watch one of these 5200 Hint Tapes I can't help but wonder how many times they had to replace the controllers
I have the 2600 atari and the 2600 version of defender. The original is a very fun game but this one looks even better.
