Maryland Hail Damage: Roof Storm Repair Insurance Claims

The Northeast has developed some unusual weather patterns lately. In Maryland, for example, recent heavy storms, loaded with hail, and a tornado or two have caused major damage to homes and businesses.

If you've experienced hail lately, it's important to have an expert look over your roofing, siding, and guttering for damage. Many homeowners are unaware they have damage that may be covered by their homeowner's insurance.

One last thing: In areas that have obvious storm damage, beware of "storm chasers" -- companies that seem to "pop up out of nowhere", do some quick repairs, and then disappear. Always check to make sure your contractor is licensed, insured, and has some good, solid references, offers before-during-after photos, and signs a detailed written contract for your protection.

I have heard that some contractors that knock on your door will put hail damage on your house if you don’t have any and that there is a website that teaches them how to do it at hailfraud dot ...

@thehailking Insurance companies train adjusters to recognize fabricated "Hail Damage", so I don't know that it's a good thing to try. Being convicted of Insurance Fraud would be just stupid when there are so many homes that need roofing, siding, guttering, etc. without having to go the illegal route.

Just say no!
