I meant more in terms of how the melody of that backup part sounds like that old funeral dirge, "dun dun duh-dun..."

That's because on most of it it's actually Ray singing most of those high parts. In the movie the girls were singing flat so he overdubbed the parts himself. It was cool to find this record and hear for myself.
