Micro-CT study of the female of an aquatic beetle (Insect: Coleoptera) of the genus Dryops. Scanned with a Skyscan-1172 microtomograph (www.skyscan.be) at the Department of Zoology, University of Granada. Spain, by Prof. Dr. Javier Alba-Tercedor. For details see paper: "Volume rendering reconstructions of the anatomy of small aquatic beetles (Insecta: Coleoptera) scanned with the Skyscan 1172 high resolution micro-CT"

I loved the video! Thanks for the upload. The paper had some helpful cites as well.
I've just started using the Skyscan 1172 in my lab for summer research. How do you actually reconstruct the images to form a 3D image?

To be able to reconstruct the images and perfom the final volume rendering reconstruction I used the free provided Skyscan software in the following sequence order: NRecon, Dataviewer (to orient properly the sample), CTan (to "clean" the moise of the images) and finally the 3D volume rendering and movies were done with CTVox.

Animals, like every living being never can be machines. No matter what we can imagine from our anthropocentric view points!.

Next up is a human version, right?

Of course!, however with the Skyscan-1172 the size of teh sample to reconstruct is less than 10 cm. Thereafter the problem should be to put a human body inside to scan(?).
In any case medical doctor are doing it pretty well. I work only with little animals
