A slide show with a montage of pictures I took while CMH heli-hiking in British Columbia in August
2008 (not 2006 as I unfortunately typed in wrongly at the beginning).
A truely extraordinary adventure deep inside the Columbian mountains that took 4 exhausting
days, albeit I took an additional 2 days exploring the Banff area in Alberta hiking the first day,
and mountain biking on the last day of my trip for a total of 6 days. A few of the pictures at the
beginning and end were taken in the Banff area of course.
Although I was in the mountains (up to 12,000 feet up) in late August, there was a stark contrast
from the lush valleys where we zip-lined over waterfalls, to almost blizzard like conditions high
in the mountains with plenty of snow and ice.
Day one of the heli-hike consisted of zip-lines over canyons and waterfalls, with rappelling down
Cliffside. Day two was the "Via Ferrata" (iron road) experience high in the mountains crossing a
suspension bridge that you can look down 2,500 feet, with plenty of climbing almost 12,000 feet
high. I managed to capture a few shots on my helmet camera in a couple of my other videos
posted here.
Day three we traversed a glacier in blizzard like conditions. Day four was the helicopter ride back
to the awaiting bus where I proceeded to Banff, and a solo mountain biking trip on some
treacherous trails.
Enjoy and feel free to post (respectful) comments if you wish.
