In our recent pony car comparison test, the retro-heavy — and just plain heavy — 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS walked away with top honors in its debut. The big V8-powered coupe needed a new challenge. It was time to refocus the lens. Shoot from a different angle, so to speak.

So we squared the brooding visage of our SS-badged protagonist up against the cruelest bunch of savages we could find, the range-topping 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 and 2010 Ford Shelby GT500.

Yeah so a couple things. First off, like some others said, why did they use a gt500 not a gt, which would have been a much better more fair choice. Second, why is it that inside line seems to get such bad 0-60 times for the Challenger. First they had 5.5 seconds, now 5.3, this car can easily do 4.6-4.8, what are they're drivers doing? Also, the Challenger is very practical, with the biggest truck and 5 seats. Plus it looks the most like the original and is the best looking one. Challenger wins!

the new 6.4 has a smoother torque curve than the 6.1, its faster but doesn't really feel like it.

@jonjon4mnc Ummm the shelby isn't meant for going up against the vette. It weighs more and has less HP. The Ford GT was meant to go up against the corvette. By the way the GT smokes the vettes.

you would think the shelby would have a faster qaurter mile time with 540 hp
