Another recording from 1945, the New York session. See notes to the 'Maryland' posting, and the pianist (I think) is Alton Purnell on both tracks.

  • This recording is just fantastic! It swings like hell, and Bunk's trumpet playing is great despite his age. Is it George Lewis on clarinette?

  • Yes, it is George Lewis. For full line-up see my posting of 'Maryland my Maryland'

  • 12th November 1945, New York City.

  • This was the sound that captured the hearts of three continents and inspired many young musicians in the late 40's /early 50's, including me.I still love this music 60 years later and can't get enough of it.

  • I also have a lump in my throat....Bunk, George, Alton, Baby, Slow Drag, Lawrence...do we miss you!!!!!!

  • I have a lump in my throat !

  • This is fantastic. Thanks for posting this , and making everyone aware of good old Bunk. It's a shame that he had to be rediscovered after not playing for so many years. Think of the lost years when he could have been giving us more of his great music.

  • how much does the CD cost? i want to buy it!!!!!!!!!!

  • @J3TAWESOME

And its one of the longest lasting popular songs too! They made a movie about it in the sixties, and it was written in 1911!

  • ive heard many 40's songs and many different types of music from the 40's. in my opinion, this is undoubtedly one of the best songs of the 40's

  • Brilliant: one of the early New Orleans men, playing REAL hot jazz!

  • Recorded in New York, but it's flat-out New Orleans jazz! Brilliant music!Thankyou, Mister Figg.

(Pity about the ending being cut-off.)

  • ".. .. dig!"

  • surely, this is the best jazz music of all time ! Thanks a lot for giving us the great pleasure of hearing it again. Sincerely, Ron.
