This version was produced after Mark Goodson's death and after his company and properties were produced by Pearson/Fremantle Media. Goodson was probably causing earthquakes in Los Angeles spinning in his grave over this garbage revival. Only Jay Wolpert had any connection to Goodson (The New Price is Right - 1972 and 1974, Double Dare). The rest of the production staff consisted of Pearson people and their tastelessness in all its glory.

Recorded from WGN. If I remember right they aired this at like 2:30am Central time. At least when I watched it anyway.

Here's what I think were some rationales for a top prize of only $5,000:
*This was before shows like Millionaire caused people to increase their expectations of how much a game show can offer. The producers probably thought that people would ignore the low prize because they thought the game and panel's antics would make up for it.
*The show's budget from the get-go was chintzy, so they couldn't afford a $10,000 or higher top prize, let alone have returning champions.

Thank you for posting this video! I remember watching this when I was a kid - I really liked the theme music for this incarnation of the show. Pretty cool to see those old commercials, too!

cheapest revival ever!
1) There's no reason to be rude to a viewer!
2) I'm sure there's gotta be a cable revival cheaper! BUT...
3) This was pretty dang cheap! $5,000 in '98 just doesn't cut it. Even $10,000 would've been ok, but $5,000 was truly just cheap. I think if it would've revived maybe a year after or so (like after "Family Feud" had moderate success and even "To Tell the Truth") they probably would've made it $10,000, but $5,000 for the top really is just too cheap.
