Soulwriter...Now that's funny(maybe I shouldn't call myself a musician)..I said nothing ignorant or disrespectful about SD...Just that I didn't get what all the hype was about. I never said anything negative about the musicianship or their compositional skils...or the mastery they have of the studio, albeit seemingly somewhat OCD.
No big deal however, I've encountered such myopic thinking from a few musicians through my career concerning differing views pursuant to styles of music and artists.

how can any musician or anyone for that matter not like this music? it feels so good. it grooves. the dynamics are great! very musical and bright. this is what an ensemble with good feel sounds like.

At least you didn't say I shouldn't refer to myself as a musician...I appreciate your tact and lack of a need to profess ignorance such as "soulwriter"...I agree that they are fine players, composers and masters at "playing" the studio.
SD's music has just never resonated with me of any emotional or musical level.

Chauntzu, you're entitled to not like SD. I happen to really like them. I think their music is different, a creative fusion of jazz and rock. SD has always been one of my favorite bands. I listened to them in my formative years when they first came out. They have really good musicianship, in my humble musician opinion. They interchanged top session musicians on their records: Steve Gadd, Michael McDonald, Phil Woods, etc. So, no hateful response. :) Musical taste is subjective.

Thanks! I'm a very big fan of european jazz and classical, particularly the music/musicians on the ECM label. I imagime I will get some interesting response to that statement as well!
