As much as I wanted Maria to win, Henin played superbly and definitely deserved it.

@mssheltn1 I agree there with the time setup for her backhand, but if the ball is getting struck high she usually picks out the backhand, along with the fact that against most players she simply doesnt have time to let it drive around her forehand. Most females are now only about brute power, making it very hard to switch to the forehand unless oponent choose to hit to her right side ofcourse. And watch her BH in slowmotion (any kind of BH btw) and then tell me it aint all good :)

@janjan55555 Henin has to have ample time to setup her beautiful backhand & no I don't think that she counters most balls with her backhand. I've seen her run around her backhand to hit a forehand on many occasions which hints at the fact that her backhand isn't all that it's hyped up to be.

@yaoryu Everybody is entitled to their opinion; however, Henin doesn't have the best backhand to me. Mauresmo's one handed backhand was way better & more lethal than Henin's. As for McEnroe, he also stated that any male college player could easily beat Serena which is a load of crap. I'm not saying that Henin doesn't have any talent, she is very talented but it is not through her backhand. Her forehand & her serve are incredible as well as her volleying skills.

completely overrated?? you're the only one who thinks so. go ask john mcenroe, he said it himself henin's backhand is the single best stroke in men or women's tennis. and mcenroe is a slam champ, unlike you.

@mssheltn1 Just check a couple of highlight matches like Henin-wickmayer( AO) or Henin-Venus(2007 Us open) and THEN tell me Henin's backhand is one dimensional. federer is very solid with forehand, but Henin uses it mostly as a counter and agressive shot, wich is quite impressive since 90 % of all women need 2H to produce that kind of counters whereas Justine does it with 1. No her backhand aint as strong as a typical Serena 2H backhander, but the fact that she counters most balls with1H is sick

WHOA! U got to be kidding me. Federer's backhand is way more versatile & reliable. Henin's backhand is not only 1-dimensional but UNRELIABLE & COMPLETELY OVERRATED. She cannot consistently go down the line; furthermore, if her opponent jams her backhand then it's a sure winner for her opponent. Henin's forehand is way better than her backhand.

But you can't say the same about the angles :)

I respectfully disagree. After watching her Tokyo matches, it's safe to say her serve can go back to what it used to be. She's gone back to a more elongated motion, which helps her timing. This summer she was serving 15-20 double faults per match and she was still pulling out wins over top 10 players.

Maria...is a person who relies 75% on her serve to consistently win matches. Her shoulder has ruined her serve forever. It'll never be what it used to be...that, among other things, will be her downfall.

sharapova can barely walk after this.
lost her power thru shrieking! :D
Maria choked big time....once you grab ahold the way she had, you just CAN'T let it go....sign of a diminished champion....I guess she made up for it at the Aussie Open '08 :/

yes...Maria is a diminished champion....I didn't typo....she's less than what people thinks she is...much less....yes her Aussie Open performance was flawless, but she's still way overrated.
