Even with all that Donnymania in the seventies, what remains special in the Osmonds sound and particularly in Yo-Yo is Merrill's voice. It's remarkable.

You nailed it. People forget HE was the lead singer of the group. Donny was the complimentary voice with the mandatory sex appeal for the young girls. But Merrill was no joke.Great range, edgy, a good look.

This is pitched a fifth lower than the Flip Wilson performance from 15 months earlier. Presumably to accommodate Donnie's rapidly changing voice.
