I also agree that it sucks that he didn't mention shaving for infection protection on the news (we both are on the same wavelenth I'm not arguing). Because "normal" people DON'T know all the reasons.
My main qualm is with cyclists that do know all the reasons and say they do it for one reason but either subconciously or secretly do it to be taken seriously. (no one likes seeing a person with a madone with a bunch of reflectors on it in the daytime..right?)
I never said being aero was the main reason though. But as a competitor it's still a valid factor. Albeit a VERY small one but it is there.
I also agree, having shaved legs is great for preventing infection and I give people their due that do shave. I just don't buy that the majority of people out there do it in case they fall.
I think that because like cyclists being looked down on for shaving as men in society, they are met with comparable friction from the cycling community if they don't.
And trust me. As a cyclist growing as an American, cyclists are being looked down. I've had school peers put me down because I race and occasionally shave my legs if I'm riding in a peloton. Americans just don't see cycling as a great sport.
And what is where a lot of people think cyclists are gay or abnormal because they do what most men wouldn't do because they don't know the main reason of shaving their legs. (Who they give more respect to swimmers than cyclists because swimmers do shave their legs as a flow-advantage)
Road rash+ non-shaved legs = infection And to a competitive rider, that can put you out for a few days. That's the last thing you want. As a cyclist, shaving you legs for a aero advantage SHOULDNT be a 1st priority
Well then. Serious and competitive cyclists shave their legs because of road rash (Which is the main reason). High level cyclists (pro) will shave their legs as for the road rash and aerodynamic advantage. They need every second advantage and where it comes in the meer seconds into being first or second, they need it.
If you are a club rider or category rider, you shouldn't think that shaving would be a aerodynamic benefit.
Note also that I'm refering to most cyclists..not pros.
Pros are going to do it for all those reasons combined and they're in great danger being in huge packs. They are also given massages all the time so that is a valid reason as well as getting ANY aerodynamic advantage possible.
But as far as a club riders or someone that ocassionally races (which makes up the majority of the cycling community). Road rash isn't going the end all reason..a valid reason but not the only encompassing one.
Cyclists, pro or enthusiest come into a culture saying that serious riders shave their legs, so they do. I know EVERYONE falls, this is a given. It's just part of the sport. But that being said, if you're doing smaller group rides or solo training you are probably NOT going to shave your legs because of road rash.
You do it because it sets you apart as a "serious" cyclist. It's part of the uniform and shows you're dedicated. I don't buy that most people are doing it in case they fall.
The main part is easier cleaning and less chance of an infection. He completely left that out and it is the main reason why cyclists shave their legs. Yes it may be easier for a message, but who's doing the massage? The rider? Or the person doing the massage? Why would that person even care when he's being paid to do his job? He/she can careless.
ive just bought a nice white and black p3c its a stunner.can someone explain to me(as im a novice)why sometimes when riding the back end seems to slip out on corners,im running vittoria zaffiro pro tyres, could it be the air pressure?
yea mang same here right now im looking for a p2c with 909 Zipp tires i ll sleep with my bike. but its pain full cuz i tried it with my trek that i have right now and the front derailer cut my calf.
how could u even say that a P3C is a good bike for begginers??????? do u now anything about bikes???
a begginer tri/TT bike from cervelo is like the "dual" or something but even that bike is better than a lot of tri bikes. hal ur a retard and im 14 years old and i no better.

Not sure what you mean by what is wrong with his statement. He included:
-for looks and tradition
-easier massages
-small aero advantage
The only thing that he left out was easier cleaning of road rash. What did you have in mind?

Wow..Every cyclist knows that this guy is wrong about shaving the legs.
