Lars Pirak from Laponia in Sweden sings of the delights of the reindeer. No wonder, because Lars is a Sámi. A member of a people living in Lapland. Until he was twelve he lived in the wilderness when the Swedish government brought him to the civilized world and introduced him to school. There he learned the language of the Swedish and much more.
In Arvidsjaur there is a Lappstaden, a place that the Sámi still use on feast days. These are forest Sámi, who tend their reindeer in the hilly wooded meadows of Lapland.
Jokkmokk is another known place in Lapland. People are proud of the men who paddle the wood logs over the river to the pulp works. It brought prosperity to the region. Jokkmokk grew fast.
