Michael Huebner Defeats Luts Hesslich for the world sprint Title. A cool night in september Colorado springs 1986. Watching these two warm up on the rollers was amazing. One win each and Hesslich did not want to leadout. In qualifying Hesslich did a 10.19 and Heubner did a 10.11. Hesslich even tried to balance on the banking and If I remember correctly he slid down the track. Hesslich is the greatest but this was Huebners night. In the end it was a DDR sweep.
Heubner,Hesslich,Huck,Kuschy. DDR top 4

  • The average speed is over the last two hundred meters. Coaches actually take time splits at a hundred and two hundred. Usually there is a subtle difference between the two splits but it shows the athletes conditioning and approach speed. So yes there is an average speed. The formula is Distance .2 Kilometers x 3600 seconds (1Hour)

Divided by the 200M time = KM/Hour. And this is the average speed over 200M

  • i remember that, like one of the best races of all time. The best sprinters in the finals, and the germans take it all. 1 to 4

  • I was there that night (cold night),

    Heubner, Hesslich, Huck, Kuschy

    What a sprint factory.

  • This was a superb best of three series. Hesslich did not want to lead the final ride. What a finish.

  • I'm in love with youtube and matchsprint101

  • I was here too and I will never forget .... I came from France and was enough lucky to see Luts at his best

  • I was there that night as well. My team mate was racing in the Keirin. Very good racing. It's funny. The nickname we gave our little group of racers was "The Sprint Factory". It produced Gibby Hatton, Mark Whitehead, and Marty Nothstein. I wasn't as fast as them, with my best efforts barely cracking 11's.

  • Legs like bridge abutments!!

  • There is no "Average speed" in Match Sprinting. They do time the last 200 meteres, but that is not how they decide the win. It's the first person over the line. The top speed is over 40 miles an hour!

  • Sorry, but those guys where the best of their time, and be sure that if they take steroids, the others where taking too (remember the olympis games in LOS ANGELES and those blood transfusion affairs ...) Lutz HESSLICH and Serguei KOPILOV were giants of their time in their specialty ...

  • Total 80's hair. Performance enhancers most likely.

But damn they were cool. East Germany, DDR.

Such an aura of invincibility in their royal blue basic adidas tracksuits.

  • God created these men to race on the track, but the haircuts, and steroids were their choice. Good 80's era music. I wonder what the avge speed was for this heat?
