A perfect example of how a video does not always tell the whole story. This clip makes it look like the dark SUV passing right to left is running the red, however what *actually* happened is the SUV pulled into the intersection while his light was green, waited for oncoming traffic, then tried to clear out the intersection once his light turned red. The cars at the front of my lane (and the lane to the left of mine) could see the SUV was legally in control of the intersection but chose to ignore that and cut HIM off. The remaining cars in my lane could not see that the SUV had been waiting patiently.

Once again, in Ohio it is legal to enter the intersection on green for a left turn and wait until oncoming traffic clears - as long as your exit is clear (once the oncoming cars stop). If the light turns red then you have ROW over all other cars, even those with a green light, until you have cleared the intersection. The green light law says you must yield to any cars that are legally in the intersection. The dark SUV entered when HIS light was green, therefore he was legally in the intersection and cross traffic must yield to him after the light changes.

The voices you hear are me and my 5yo son. He is proud of himself for being able to read the word 'coffee' from a Caribou Coffee sign by the side of the road.

  • Where I live in Virginia, they teach us to stop at the white line until the intersection is clear to avoid trying to turn on a red light.

  • @JohnEdwardBiggs Different states have different rules. The US should set all traffic flow laws at the federal level to avoid confusion caused by state-by-state differences.

  • @Scruit Heaven knows we need more gov't. We need more people to staff more offices to make gov't bigger. It's too small. Right.

  • @dave0mary Not getting into a political debate about size of government. Just saying we need consistency state-to-state.

  • @simoncase Well Roundabouts works nicely for smaller roads, but they get complicated when trying to connect multilaned roads. Around here they actually made a combo: A roundabout with lights in it. Imagine the chaos before they got THAT working right!!! (only plus is, that they made right-turn lanes bypassing the whole thing).

  • @JohnEdwardBiggs It would seem like they just hand out drivers licenses here in Virginia. Sometimes you're lucky if the car up front even goes when the light turns green. Nobody ever turns left on green (without an arrow) or right on red (with no cars/people in the intersection). This place drives me insane.

  • Roundabouts my friends. Roundabouts. :)

  • @stormshockin yea im not a panic driver. nor do i have any kind of road rage. i just take my time and get to where im going eventually.

  • @MrKdub318 Ok. Now that I can take into consideration :-).

But the "I almost had a panic attack! We coulda.." This makes me think the section was pretty clear.

You can't be THAT scared about what ~could~ happen otherwise you may inadvertently make it happen.

It's like that unwritten law "You go where you are looking."

  • @stormshockin well, this was before i ever started driving. ive avioded several accidents because of my reactions and attentiveness to the road. im just not one of those people that inch in the middle of the intersection to turn. ill wait in the turn lane until its safe, or wait until i have a green arrow. ive never froze up while driving. ive witnessed too many people almost get hit while sitting in the middle of an intersection, so i just choose to not do it.

  • @MrKdub318 I do to. I'm in the same boat. Without my car, I'd be pretty set back.. even if everything was replenished and replaced. I'd prolly loose everything.

But.. Sometimes over precaution is what causes the accident. That's why I call you a wimp. If you are that afraid of the road, you shouldn't be behind the wheel. Be attention and precautionary.. but not so that you freeze up over anything that blows by you; like a leaf.

  • @stormshockin sorry, i care about my vehicle and my life. i guess that makes me a wimp. i have bills to pay, i dont have time to just chill in the middle of a busy, high traffic intersection to get hit.

  • @MrKdub318 Wimp.
