This is part 1 of a 1-hour documentary made by France's Channel 4 — "The Flavors of West Japan" — about the natural and cultural treasures of western Honshu and the island of Kyushu. The program begins at the region's eastern edge — the Kii Peninsula. Featured here are a tea farm in the verdant hills of Kumano City and the magnificent, sprawling temple complex of Koyazan, the ancient heart of the Shingon sect of Japanese Buddhism.
