  • @blindspirit Dude come on now. I play tennis but not golf and even I respect golf. It takes a lot of time and effort to be good in both sports. Now, if you want to pick on a sport for requiring no skill, pick on a "sport" like soccer... That is something that requires very little skill

  • @Whaleshark1993 Agreed. Although it wouldn't be nearly as impressive if most of the pro golfers weren't old and fat.

  • @181erob And i agree that OVERALL tennis players are in better physical shape. However there are players that are in top notch shape, most notable being Tiger. My points im trying to make are......being fit will definately benefit your golf game, golf is clearly a sport, and that what Tiger has done in the game of golf is more impressive than what Roger has done in Tennis.

  • @181erob That's the biggest misconception about golf. Look at basically every single guy coming out on tour now, they are in shape. I already agreed that you don't NEED to be in top notch shape to be a good golfer, but to be at the level that Tiger was at it is necessary. The golf swing is an athletic motion that requires you to generate a lot of speed. Its not the walking that's the most athletic part, its the motion. However being good cardio shape still helps to maintain your focus/energy

  • @Whaleshark1993 A non - athletic person can become fit, but being fit doesn't make you good. You don't even need fitness at all for golf. If you have the energy for a stroll through the park, you are physically capable of playing golf at a professional level. There isn't a single professional tennis player that's remotely overweight or uncoordinated. I love golf, but there's obviously no athletic comparison between the two.

  • @181erob And i agree you can be GOOD at golf without having the athletic body of someone like Tiger. But you will never be GREAT without all the components, especially in today's game. With that being said golf is still tougher. A non athletic person can become fit purely by hard work. Tiger is unique because hes naturally talented, with the hardest work ethic, with the mental toughness, with the drive. And whats your point about the your perspective on tennis? That applies to ANY sport....

  • @181erob hahaha buddy there are unlimited shots in golf. Saying there are two shots are so ignorant. There are high shots, low shots, running shots, spinning shots, flop shots, bunker shots, draws, fades, hooks, slices....ALL with different lies and natural surroundings (wind, temperature, etc.) There are literally hundreds of shots in golf you can play, and the fact that you have the opportunity to think about the exact shot is what makes it so hard to pull off.

  • @Whaleshark1993 I'm not so sure about that. For one thing, tennis is more selective, by which I mean you have to be very fit to play tennis at a high level. Nerves of steel apply to tennis, as well, because if your emotions are not under control, you could easily blow a match. And to put things into perspective, great players like state champions generally play at the semi - pro level. Awesome players are on the tour, and INCREDIBLE players are relevant. UNBELIEVABLE players are remembered.

  • @Whaleshark1993 But there are only two strokes in golf. The swing and the putt, compared to tennis's forehand, backhand, serve, and volleys, as well as footwork and the X factor, which would be mentality and perseverance. And I'm not so sure that endurance is very important in golf. If you have the endurance of the average person, you can play. For tennis, you need endurance, speed, flexibility, balance, strength, and athleticism. Golf is a sport, but not on an athletic par with tennis.

  • Golf is clearly a sport. Strength, flexibility, balance, endurance will all help you. Golf has evolved now and the guys competing out there now are in looking very athletic. Tiger over Roger by far because there are no two serves in golf.
