In a bizarre way he's the most sane of all the Watchmen - he's in touch with the world and accepts it for what it is, unlike extremist Rorschach, nostalgic Nite Owl, megalomaniac Veidt or disconnected Jon.

Actually, Im pretty sure hes based on an old charleton comics charecter named Peacemaker. The book was originally going to star charecters like the Blue Beetle and the Question, but the story made them unusable in new storys, so Alan Moore made new ones based on them, I.E. Blue Beetle=Nite Owl The Question=Rorschach.

@KingZolem There are documents and word from Moore himself that said that it was gonna be called "Who killed the Peacemaker?" or something similar, Jon was originally Captain Atom (Superman cant teleport), DC couldn't use them if the story went through, so he created his own characters. The Charleton characters weren't incorporated into the main DC canon at the time, they just got them, so they didnt want to use them and discard them immediately, so Moore created his own.

@theguru234 No, the Blue Beetle and The Question are right, but the rest were major charecters, one of the main reasons why they wouldn't let him use them. Jon = Superman, Ozzimandus = Lex Luthor, and Comedian = Joker. Peacemaker was a VERY different charecter.
