The Tide continues to rise throughout the city! Construction on the new light rail system has hit the halfway mark. Up until this point, much of the work has involved installing the underground components. so residents and visitors have not been able to witness all of the progress. but now thats changing . Crews are in the process of erecting the overhead poles at various locations throughout the city.
The poles supply the tides electricity. The 11 light-rail stations are also starting to take shape. The Tide will extend 7-point-4 miles east to west from the Eastern Virginia Medical Center through downtown Norfolk,. and it will continue along the Norfolk Southern right-of-way, beside I-264, to Newtown Road. Construction began in 2007 and the Tide is scheduled to be ready for passengers next year. For all the latest information about the Tide light rail system visit www.ridethetide.com.
