"Legally, all Chinese people don't have the same rights," says Sorman. He explains the identity card system, which means for example,if you were not born in Shanghai, you have no legal right to live there.

I read part of his book and it's informative. Although it would probably help to read works by other people like John Pomfret. China is a big topic to discuss. It's like a lot of the people in China are nationalist in front of outsiders but inside they really do talk a lot about their leaders. Of course, there's a lot of work to do.

We for sure need more people by Sorman, to expose the gravest discriminatory system that's now going on in China.

honestly, you "yesfromchina" guys are starting to freak some of us out over here. you should probably give up your ridiculous grievance culture - the culture that blames everyone but the Communist government, and Mao in particular - and snap out of it before something dangerous happens. C'mon, we are your friends!

Mr. Sorman, I am sorry, you are tolally misleading your audience now. Without ID card, lots of people live, work and then marry - legally - in Shanghai. You are really funny to make the speech - you don't know anything about these. so i cannot say you are lying. you just have no idea of what's the life in china... so funny you are. You are a prof in some university? quit your job or you will ruin ppl's future.
