This is probably the most memorable quote from the book of Ruth. This is a true love story if ever there was one. A friend shared this song with me back in the early '90s and I immediately fell in love with it. Hope you like it too. The music was composed by J. Marsh.

Entreat me not to leave thee,
Or to return from following after thee:
Wither thou goest I will go;
And where thou lodgest, I will lodge:
Thy people shall be my people,
And thy God shall be my God.
The Lord do so to me,
And more also,
If ought but death part thee and me.

  • I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (August 14), Ruth 8:8-18 was the basis for our Sunday School lesson. It was entitled "Choosing a Community."

  • Many people use this in weddings, which is a beautiful idea. But this was said by Ruth to Naomi, her mother in law. What a wonderful example for all of us. I strive to be the kind of mother in law that my "in laws" would feel this way.

  • Beautiful... Is there a video around for "Wherever you go" from the Book of Ruth (or lyris??)

  • Interesting that Ruth spoke the words to her mother-in-law (after her husband had died). Thank God for women who love their sons' wives as their own daughters and seek to lead them to GOD.
