View from passenger window during takeoff in an Aeroflot Tu-154 from Buyant Ukhaa Airport in Mongolia ULN/ZMUB (since renamed Chinggis Khaan International Airport)en route to Moscow. Listen to those engines whine! Nice views over the misty suburbs of the capital, Ulaanbaatar.

  • mongolia has airports?

  • Yes, but no sea ports ;)

  • That is not mist, that is SMOG!

  • Yeah, I think you must be right :)

  • Actually this was only two years ago; I was flying with Aeroflot not MIAT (in 2001 went on a MIAT Airbus). Yes I much prefer the comfort levels of an Airbus.

  • The engines sounded like old sci-fi movie sound effects at first.

  • I want to fly on one of those ex-Soviet beasts before they are all gone. Russian jets may be loud but they have personality! ;-)

  • Yep, Aeroflot is much better airline now than it used to be mostly thanks to increased competition from other domestic (e.g. TransAero) and international airlines.

  • I flew from Amsterdam to Moscow and back with Aeroflot in a A320. The service was great, i even got a few cans of Russian beer from the stewardess, so that my father could try it at home. The food was great to! The interior was nice, with blue leather seats, and everything was clean and looked almost as new.

From Moscow to Rostov i flew an old TU154, and i actually loved it. The sound was freightening, the acceleration at take-off was impressive.

  • Looks like a good place to stay away from.

  • very nice!!!

  • Well... Certainly don't have Noise Abatement Procedure on ZMUB. =)

  • Of course. Look for MIAT and Eznis, Airlines of Mongolia

  • i thought mongolia only had grass

  • Actually, they did. Four of them, on the Tu-114. Basically it's the civilian version of the Bear, based directly on the military version. And it became the fastest prop-driven plane to date.

  • Are they Soloviev engines? great sound, nice video!

  • In 1996 I was flown with a VIA Tu-154 from Düsseldorf to Burgas. I am sorry. But this flight was horrible. But for Aeroflot I think there a very good hope in the future. With it,s modern A319 & A320 Airliners and with it,s fully new renovated Customer Service. Today SU must be a very good airline.
