Still Digging in the Georgia Red Dirt, Frankie

My family has been going there forever... Super fun when you are little! Oh, yea, I wouldn't go blaming Oklahoma... I would blame the military... Perhaps you should do your research on Oklahoma, before you go running your mouth, or in this case, your fingers. Besides, anyone that thinks Texas is better than Oklahoma is most likely the proud owner of a G.E.D., if that, and not much more. I have lived in Texas, and it 'ain't' that "great".

@rondodol Noo no, thats not how it works, the moisture underneath the ground mixes with the soil that contains the salt molecules but only the salt molecules will form the crystal when the moisture evaporates (with a few impurities obviously). It has nothing to do with sand, it just so happens that these crystals formed in sand. If given a local area with enough concentration of salt and enough water, crystals will grow anywhere if they have enough free space to form.

so you could make crystals with salt and sand? please reply

Honestly , Oklahoma has NOTHING to offer ! I had looked at this site before and now I am horrified to see this "no way to guarantee they are all gone" ???????
I am not bringing my kids there. These chemical are in the sand, and "educational materials" just aren't going to cut it ! Get real Oklahoma , this is why I'm moving back to Texas. You tax us working people to death and offer zilch !
As long as the people here agree to this kind of garbage that is just what they will keep getting !

hey guys, have a look at legend of someplace special on here
Glad you like it panga38! It's a bit dated but not much has changed out there. I'm amazed to find people from all over the country and even other countries come here to dig crystals.

The actual crystals are formed by the high levels of Gypsonite in the ground/water. The salt is the same type as you have on your table but dose not make the crystals.

If you would like some I'm sure we could come up with a few for you just make contact with me or the contacts listed in the videos. The area is closed currently due to some left over world war 2 munitions but we are hoping it will open up this year (2009). Thanks!

Were those munitions harmful to the sand? I heard that it was nuclear waste.

No, the area did not have an nuclear waste, it was training kits for chemical warfare. It was weak solutions so that soldiers could see what the effects and smells where like. There where some explosive shells found that where removed. There is no way to absolute way to guarantee they are all gone but I think they have placed some signs with educational material.
