This is a quick demo of how to do marble nails with water. I've added a step-by-step since none of the other videos I've seen had one and it took me half an hour to figure out what I was doing wrong.
You Will Need:
-1 small round bucket of room temperature water at least 2-
3 inches deep
-2 or more toothpicks or halved skewer sticks (pointy side) in case one gets gunked up with dried nail polish
-1 damp paper towel (toilet paper in my case) to wipe the excess nail polish off of the toothpicks
- 1 bottle of nail polish remover (I ran out, so I used the left-over acrylic liquid from when I did my acrylics.. it still works)
- lots of cotton balls and q-tips (I had no cotton balls)
-1 base color nail polish
-2 to however many colors you want
- (optional) 1 color (any) to start off the marbling (you must NOT put your toothpick in this color!)
- (optional) 1 top coat (I don't use one for marbling because it's glossy enough, but you can if you want)
Step 1: Put a base color on. I used NYX Sweetie because it's a shimmery light pink and it's the closest thing I have to a neutral color
Step 2: Prepare your "work station". I put the bucket right in front of me, the damp cloth and the stick on one side and my nail polishes on the other. Be sure to have your nail polish remover, cotton balls, and q-tips close by
Step 3: Open all other nail polishes for quick and easy application. I used CG Boundless Color Midnight Magic, CG Boundless Color Candy Apple, and a white one for french tips whose label fell off
Step 4: Put in 1 drop of the first color. I used Wet 'n Wild 9117 (yellow?) because it's still very liquidy compared to my white one. This will expand and dry up very quickly. DO NOT attempt to drag your toothpick through this color or it will take out the entire thing and mess up all your other colors (see after I put my thumb into the water and how the dried nail polish immediately stuck to the stick)
Step 5: This step has to be very quick. Add one drop after another in any pattern you like. I put mine in the center of each prior color. You can put it side by side or however you want. Be creative.
Step 6-1: Drag your toothpick through all colors but the first one and make any design you want. Don't overdo it or all the colors will eventually blend into each other
Step 6-2: Look for any imperfections (air bubbles) or bunched up globs of nail polish in your design and drag it outwards to the edge without going into the first color. You can see when I picked certain spots and dragged them out. This is because it will be an excess spot of nail polish on your nail and it won't look nice
Step 7: Pick a spot on your design you like and drop your nail into it at an angle until your entire nail and then some is submerged. You can do 2 nails at once if you like, but 1 is easier
Step 8: Keep your finger in the water. Blow on the water to speed dry the leftover nail polish and use your toothpick to drag it into a big bunch on your stick. Do this until it's all gone. Wipe it off on your damp paper towel if you plan to use your stick again. (Put your finger a bit more into the water before you take your finger out. This will make sure that any leftover nail polish still floating but attached to your thumb won't double-back onto your nail)
Step 9: Remove all the extra nail polish on your finger. Use the q-tips to do the contour work around your nail. Apply a top coat if you want
Step 10: ENJOY!!
when ever i try this the polish never spreads!! whyyy???
