An atheist's creed

I believe in time,
matter, and energy,
which make up the whole of the world.

I believe in reason, evidence and the human mind,
the only tools we have;
they are the product of natural forces
in a majestic but impersonal universe,
grander and richer than we can imagine,
a source of endless opportunities for discovery.

I believe in the power of doubt;
I do not seek out reassurances,
but embrace the question,
and strive to challenge my own beliefs.

I accept human mortality.

We have but one life,
brief and full of struggle,
leavened with love and community,
learning and exploration,
beauty and the creation of
new life, new art, and new ideas.

I rejoice in this life that I have,
and in the grandeur of a world that preceded me,
and an earth that will abide without me. -PZ Meyers

  • Yes this is who you think it is. I may have stopped harassing people on facebook but now im on youtube. Ahhahahah. Soon I will be starting my atheist series.

  • @kentimusmaximus Cool, can't wait to see 'em. Glad you liked these few videos.

  • Those who adhere to this creed certainly cannot object to events like the Columbine School Shooting. Hey, those kids were just embracing the question; they simply embraced their mortality and the mortality of others--and not one atheist can ever explain why they should or should not have murdered those people.

Keep pretending you will escape, maybe you will believe it for a while. But soon you die, then the judgment. You are condemned by the Law of God, and how shall you be just with God?

  • quote:"and not one atheist can ever explain why they should or should not (why they should?) have murdered those people."

-I am one atheist. They should not have killed those people because one or many of the victims might have lived on to improve the quality of life of many of his/her fellow man.

Do you think you are moral?

A hypothetical: If you truly believed god was commanding you to walk into a school and kill as many ppl as you could, would you deny his will?

  • This video is absolutly wonderful. Thank you for outlining some of our beliefs. It gives our community a sense of direction in a world of crazy people.

  • i am honestly glad you liked it. I felt the same way when i first read it.

  • You need to make more of these videos

  • Wow how can someone think that an atheist would agree with the columbine massacre? Just shows how blind some people are made by faith. For me as an atheist I have to spend every day pondering right and wrong. I don't have a book to tell me. But I would say any rational person would think the murder of another is wrong. By the way people kill people in the name of faith every day. Its just plain sick how many people die in the name of religion every day.

  • To respond to RedBeetle: the reason atheists are unlikely to complete such actions or condone such actions is because we know the value of life, we understand that there is no life after death, there is no 'say your hail marys' and all is forgiven. We respect all life and accept that this is the only one we, and everyone, has. Religion breeds hate, war, violence and intolerance because religion can excuse these actions. Atheists have no 'scapegoat'. Religion has no morals, atheism does.

  • @RedBeetle LOL... what the fuck do those kids have to do with your point? You act as if there is no right or wrong without god. Why would your religion be right and every other religion wrong? Don't you think maybe this is a belief in something that early man came up with before science? I'm not an atheist, but I sure do hate christians. No God will judge me for refusing to blindly follow something.

FAITH= belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence.

  • @RedBeetle

Blah, blah, blah! God this, God that, hell here, hell there. Idiot! Ignorance can be fixed, give education a chance!

  • Great video and creed, been a belief of mine for many years! And to the Christian hate monger; I say the same thing I say to all of you... it's your "hell" you go burn in it.
