This situation is nothing new, my local fire dept. wanted to add more women firefighters to avoid any sexism lawsuits so they were encouraged to join unfortunately they were unable to complete some of the physical requirements so the next year they just lowered the standard so we could add them to the team. So now we have a handful of women that were incapable of passing the year before. When are we going to stop this s**t. That is not how America is supposed to be the best get the job PERIOD.

Translation: "Oh, we didn't fill our black quotas for the test, well I guess we have to throw it out until we can justify promoting blacks who do not quality for the position." Seriously, is there any reason why skin color is being used to determine qualifications here? There weren't any blacks in the top scorer so no one gets promoted? Seriously? Just goes to show how messed up society is these days.

The problem is that, historically, many people who have been crippled in advancing in the workplace on account of the deficiencies (either in education or lack of work experience) has been a direct effect of racial discrimination. That is the reason why states and many programs (scholarships, college admissions, etc.) have a minimum diversity quota they attempt to meet in order to ensure every race is represented, especially those who have been historically misrepresented because of race.

At the time, there existed a fedral legal standard that said if 80% of one group has higher scores it has a possibility of corruption.

The city followed that fedral legal standard and decided to do NOTHING as they did not know what to do. There would be critics on both ends of the local government spectrum.

Since then, a supreme court decision created a never before imagined legal standard which will prevent this from happening.
