This tutorial explains the fundamentals of using player-controlled radio calls to make things happen. It gives a demo in the editor and shows the effects in game. I found these confusing when I started editing in Arma2, and I couldn't find a good "how-to" anywhere.

Radio controls are really just one way to make a trigger fire. So to use them, you start by creating a trigger. Then you choose how it will be set off. You have ten options (radio alpha through radio juliet), and each one is "fired" by the radio menu in game. To get to the menu in game, players (or group leaders) can hit the "0" key, and that will reveal the Radio option. To choose it, hit "0" again. That will bring up all the currently available radio options.

Since triggers are really just ways of controlling events or making things happen, think of a radio trigger as a way to let the player(s) control certain events. Common uses include calling for support (commonly done through the BIS built-in scripts for things like Transport, Artillery, CAS airstrikes, etc.), but it can also be used to fire an independent script that could do just about anything.

  • @1Gabrielsson You'll want to read in the BI wiki (at community.bistudio.com) about things like playSound, Say, Say2d and playMusic. It's going to take some experimenting, and know that it works differently for SP than MP. (SP is much simpler.)

  • How can I create a radio command using the activation of a different trigger? I need the option to appear halfway through the mission.

  • @ppitm So do I understand right: you want to create a trigger with a radio command part way through the mission?

  • Yeah, I can do that. Let me see if there's anything like it around. I'll try to get to it tomorrow.

  • Thats more complicated than I can explain here, Mac. Sorry.

  • @MetalApocalypse999: I need more details than that in order to understand what's going on. Probably, though, you have placed a MANNED HMMWV on the map, and it's seeing your unit as its group leader, so it's just following you as a foot soldier under your command would.
