This is part 3 of a 5-part talk given by Dr. Steven Salzberg at an event sponsored by the National Capital Area Skeptics on November 8, 2008. In the words of Dr. Salzberg's description of the talk, "Scientists and skeptics need to act to quell the rumors and educate the public, so that vaccines, one of the greatest medical successes in history, remain an effective tool in our fight against disease." The presentation was edited and omits video clips of Larry King and 60 Minutes and references to individual practitioners.

The views expressed are those of the speaker and do not necessarily represent the views of the National Capital Area Skeptics. For more information about the National Capital Area Skeptics, and to learn about our upcoming events, visit www.ncas.org.

  • AIDS is caused by HIV running rampant and damaging the immune system. HIV actually targets immune cells unlike many of the viruses used in vaccines. Also, it can very easily be seen that the weakened forms of live viruses used in vaccines do not propagate themselves enough to cause any significant damage to the immune system - unlike HIV.

  • There is thimerisol in vaccines today. You have to read the ingredients. Thimerisol is not the only scary ingredient in vaccines.

  • isn't the amount of mercury in the vaccines just a miniscule amount that they use to help keep the vaccine clean as new needles are entering the bottle? Haven't they said that it's nothing to worry about?

  • Beginning in 1999, the thimerosal - autism link was advanced by activists. Explanation of thimerosal. Explains difference between methyl mercury & ethyl mercury. Mentions Arthur Allen's 2002 article. Review the studies published disconfirming autism-mercury.

I think there were chunks cut out here referring to the Geiers among others.
