The second track from The Electric Light Orchestra's 1976 album A New World Record. This has to be one of my all time favourite Jeff Lynne compositions. The lush strings, the lovely little keyboard riff at the beginning, the heartfelt lyrics and the unmistakable C-AM-F-G chorus adorning a thousand other ballads but none as effective as here.
Programmed once again on my trusty DOS-PC knacker using Voyetra software. Main piano Roland RD-300s (all live, not sequenced), Korg M1 and (all out of shot) Korg O5R/W, DW8000 and Boss DR660 for the Kick Drum.
I've been sort of faithful to the original but taken a bit of a liberty with the string arrangements in the second 'I look into the sky' bridge.
I've also used the ending Richard Tandy played on the Time tour (incase you don't recognise it).
And spliced in some lovely little quirky telephone pictures because why not!!!
A little thing I've been doing on the videos is some light hearted 'product placement' (but I'm not getting paid) and this time see how many ELO CD albums you can spot.
Enjoy. Rate and comment and none of you spiteful Leon fans downrating please. Little swines.

@FalseShatner Yes. This IS music with strings. And probably the best music i've ever heard.

I think the gay stuff is nothing but ninnies lashing out. Motorhead deathkill music fans or something embarrassed 'cause they like this music. Gasp! Music with strings! How square, man!

@MrBradhit - I am unaware of anybody suggesting Jeff Lynne is gay. He has had several wives and various girlfriends. Not that I'd care either way.

Great job man, one of my fav songs, only seen yours and one other do it.
With the G dim, could that be A#dim7, guess very similar aren't they.

Great Job !!! Great Cover!!! My only question to you is how did you change your main keyboard sound from the begining to the sound at the end ??? Was it Midi??? Also how did you come up with the drum track to play against??
Thanks In advance!
skyprop 1 year ago
@skyprop - The sounds were changed by the sequencer. The whole song, including patch (sound) changes, accompanyment (the bits you don't see me play) and the drums was programmed (by me) into Voyetra Sequencer Classic. The drums were largely step-programmed (put onto the staves note for note by hand).
