This robotic arm and caravel system was developed to automate spectroscopic analysis of boronic acid-sugar complexes.
The servo motor that moves the arm was purchased from sparkfun.com
A 5:1 geared servo motor was purchased from servocity.com to power the caravel/wheel. Initially a stepper motor, h-bridge, and 12V external power supply were used to spin the wheel, but lacked sufficient torque for this application.
All components were controlled using an Arduino microcontroller purchased from sparkfun.com
