Tribute for Ellie, June 23, 2010 ^

Ellie Shoal Potvin is your everyday average eight year old little girl. She has a twin sister named Grace, a beautiful family and is such a happy kid to be around. Except on July 2nd, 2008, Ellie was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. This type of cancer is found in children and grows from muscle cells in the body that didn't develope correctly. Ellie had a tumor in her hip and some small ones in her precious lungs. She bravely with the courage and strength of a princess warrior underwent one year worth of Chemotherapy and a few weeks of Radiotherapy (Radiation) to her tumor site. She lost her hair, lost most outside connections with the world and was forced to stay in a hospital in order to get better, but that is just what she did-and with a big smile on her face! Ellie successfully completed her treatment protocol and began to live the life she had missed out on the previous year. She enjoys singing, dancing, being with her family (esp. twin sister Grace) and going to school, and she did. She went to camp that summer and swam numerous times, hung out with her friends, went out to fun places and just lived her life! Then sadly, distaster struck the Potvin home, once again. Ellie's family learned that she had relapsed in early October with a new tumor growing at the original hip site, and some new ones were in her lungs. The Potvin team was not about to let this get them down or even hurt them in anyway though! They decided to be stronger than ever and be "Team Potvin" to help eachother fight this battle a second time. They knew that their precious Ellie had kicked cancers booty once and SHE COULD DO IT AGAIN!! She tried several different, less hard outpatient treatments in order to try and keep the quality of her life high, but they showed no effect on the tumors, sadly. At a last effort, the Potvin's were forced to do what they had been dreading, put Ellie in the hospital for a week every few weeks for a new line of Chemotherapy. With no outside connections whatsoever, Ellie was thrust back into the hospital to bravely fight her cancer and she did so, again, with a big smile on her face and positive attitude, as always. She is currently still in hospital doing regular treatments and fighting hard as hell against this evil disease we call "cancer."

Please send messages of praise, love and comfort to the Potvin Team during this trying time and help LIFT UP ELLIE.

We love you precious Ellie, you are so incredibly brave and you can do anything you set your mind to!! Don't you ever forget that or lose that faith sweet girl!

  • i am so sorry that i am crying right now. :(

  • Such a wonderful tribute to an amazing young girl. She fought so hard for so long. It's great to see that in the midst of everything, her family did all they could to give her a "normal" childhood with her twin sister. Though I am a stranger, I can feel the love that was put into this awesome video. Ellie, you can rest now. No need to fight anymore. I can only imagine how beautiful you are with your wings. :')
