This video was shot in the hot glass studio at Rhode Island School of Design in 2007.
Sound Wave began as a process where a thick glass vessel is filled with molten glass. While the glass is still molten it is subjected to the vibrations of a ringing bell. After the molten contents set up, the sound waves become permanent optic striations in the vessel. The contents become a visual and material unity of process and outcome, suggesting the sublime from the ordinary.
This work has progressed into a larger scope of sounds and as an activity in and of itself. Musicians come in to play music or chords to the glass.
