Manatee traffic jam!! This determined manatee worked hard to get out of this big pile of blubbery manatees. The manatees had all converged in a small area in Satellite Beach, Florida, to keep warm due to unusually cool temperatures in late February and early March 2010. Manatees, or sea cows, are a vulnerable species that has been in decline in recent decades due to increased motor boat traffic. They are exceedingly gentle and herbivorous animals. Sadly, it is very rare to see a manatee without extensive scarring on its body from contact with boat propellers.
