2008 deer hunt with Alexander

Alex went on his first deer hunt with his dad. My lucky charm! We sat for the evening hours and with 45 min of light left I hear him wisper "Dad....Dad......DAD!" I was looking the other way and he saw three deer come up out of the creek bed to our right. I slowly turn and am happy to see some deer walking down the trail out in front of us. A spike, a fork and then I see that the last one has some body size to him. Looks like a nice fat 2 1/2 year old at least. The TC Encore .50 did it's job and the rest is history. I filled the freezer with this one. I was so happy that my son could be there that day. He has a great appreciation for the outdoors that goes far beyond just hunting and fishing. There are two parts in the video that I love. Him asking "Am I on?" when I point the camera at him. I didn't catch it until I was making the video and I laughed my head off. The other was the look on his face when I told him that the deer would have to ride home on his lap. Priceless. The hunt took place on State Land in Western New York. Hunt safe and take a kid into the outdoors.

Carlton Hill WMA. There are a ton of good places to hunt around here. Go to Gander Mtn. and pick up a map book showing the topo maps and state land areas. Worth every penny. Some big woods around Ellicottville and out near Swain. Good luck. Scout early and throughout the season. It took me a few years to figure out the deer patterns in the area. I hunt three different areas depending on mast crops and weather(snow cover).

I bet you were happy...I know I would have been...well actually I am happy, for you both and what a special way to enjoy the outdoors together hunting as father and son.

Congrats on a beauty Buck, and congrats on showing your Son all the other wonderful parts to the outdoors...you can see it in his eyes that he loves nature and all that it has to offer. I like the 2 parts you do too...and add that I like when he says he isn't freaked out but rather he is excited!
