Wanted to show that the headphone jack on the Viliv S5 can also work as a microphone.
Notes:
1) on skype(and others) you can still hear the other person on both the built in speakers and the headphones
2) the record volume isn't that great. you really need to speak directly to the mic, if the mic is too far the computer could not hear you.
3) i found this item: http://www.usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view.php?products_id=662 - I was wondering is somebody who has it can test it and post there results.
4) i tried using a regular microphone (without the 3 ring separator or 4 sectioned metal) jack but did not work.
5)I know i said that i was using a iPhone headset which is actually an iPhone earphones. I know the difference so no need to point out this mistake.

  • I have a Viliv S5 whit windows 7 OS and I bought an iphone headset whit a 4 segment jack. When I plug the headset in it recognizes that something is plugged in but I cannot use the mic. Can you please tell me how to configure the headset to work. Can you also tell me what program is that you are working with, with which you are checking the mic in?

  • Cool, thanks for showing this... I didn't realise that the port was 3 channel. I have the 3G version so I will try making voice calls.

  • were you able to use 3g service with your device or i suppose edge would work for skype as well.

  • sweet thanks!!! I can't wait to get mine soon.
