How exactly did Texas go from Ann Richards as Governor to George W. Bush and Rick Perry? What the hell happened?

Well, she was "cute". I'll give the old hag credit for that. But she underestimated a few things. George HW Bush won Texas in 1988 and most of the country by 400 plus electoral votes. Then, his son George W. Bush (whom she derivisely called "Schrub") came along 6 years later and cleaned her clock denying her a 2nd term as TX Governor. Don't get me wrong. I think all in all, Ann Richards was a good Governor but when it came to being "cute", she was annoying.

When Ann was a little girl, Texas was 80% Democratic. State regulations allowed lower and middle class families to keep most all of their earnings. Since 1994, Texas is now 80% Republican and now ranks LAST nationally in healthcare, the uninsured, education; and at the TOP in pollution, teen pregnancy and infant/maternal deaths... someday Texas will return to greatness... but now it's in the toilet...
