Press were invited to the switching on of the gigantic Makara wind farm west of Wellington, the scale of the project became apparent as we bumped along some of the 33km of road constructed across a 50km area of what was mostly extremely hilly, exposed farmland. Footage is from the main access road, and shows the massive tower sections, the blades stacked up and the substation that collects the turbines' power before entering the National Grid.

  • could be, though they can go anywhere, shame to close a great tourist site cause of that (and it could be just open during the day)

  • @mrbenwallace Vandals? Boy Racers at night? That sort of thing? :)

  • Why isn't there public access to the Makara wind turbines?
